Abstract

This is an experience report of the project “Evaluation and guidance for the stimulation of the development of children hospitalized in Pediatric Unit of Santa Casa de Santos”. The extension project aims to evaluate and stimulate the development of 0-12 months old babies and guide mothers / caregivers. Actions are developed by a team (one teacher and eight students from three different health professions) of Federal University of São Paulo - Santos in the hospital. The protocol Denver I was used to assess the development and support and orientations and stimulation. The observed behaviors were presented in percentages and briefly described. An educational brochure was prepared to guide the mothers / caregivers in how to stimulate the development. Experience has shown that some children hospitalized had some developmental delays, and that this may be a propitious moment for the realization of guidance and counseling intervention with mothers / caregivers.
