Abstract

The implementation of agroecological school vegetable gardens allow reflection of the school community on environmental issues, nutritional quality and life quality. The vegetable gardens can be used as learning area, making the school environment more enjoyable with the deployment of productive green areas. However, the implementation and maintenance of these areas in the school environment requires some challenges for its consolidation. The work conducted in the Municipal Nursery Dr. Washington Barros had the objective to discuss the implementation process, productive and pedagogic management of an agroecological school garden. In this sense, a diagnostic was made by the nursery and volunteers who already had a vegetable garden for commercial purposes on school area. After restructuring the vegetable garden, so as to attend the needs of both parties, there were several educational activities with students, which varied depending on the age of the children involved. Activities facilitated the contact and knowledge of children with food in its production environment and consumption, as well as environmental factors and resources involved in vegetable production. These activities contributed to the awareness of children about healthy eating and aroused interest among teachers in the pedagogical work with agroecological school gardens.
