Abstract

The health maintenance depends on the daily adequate intake food. Nutritional education is a challenge and should focus on the choice of food, the treatment of these after purchase, the way to prepare them to enjoy their nutritional potential. The objective was to promote food and nutrition education to inform the public about the food sold in a street market. It began with the identifi cation of the food sold and subsequent detection of questions about these foods. Educational materials were designed to clarify the doubts and then were delivered in nutrition education activities. It was observed that many people are unaware of the benefi ts of some foods and reported questions about the way to prepare them. It is concluded that nutrition education is a poignant necessity, aiming to develop a critical population who are able to use basic instructions that benefi t their quality of life.
